SITUATION:  This Power and Public Utilities Company contracted WCS to assess the viability and security of its web-based applications. A web-based application provides an opportunity to access business information from anywhere in the world at any time. It also saves time and money as well as improves interactivity with customers and partners. Problems faced in this organization included performance issues, concerns about its architectural design, viability against security threats and other mobile applications. Other concerns were to find out if its web-based applications were appropriately configured to meet industry standards and compliance requirements, as well as make recommendations for improvement. 

 
Federal Agency Case History Print

SITUATION:  This Federal Agency was the lead agency coordinating technical support for federal responder and federal contractor safety and health during clean up and recovery operations after hurricane Katrina, along the Gulf Coast of the United States.

The Agency’s Technical Data Center contracted WCS to provide a variety of turn-key certification and accreditation compliance services. WCS was secured to review, verify, and test the security controls (management, operational, and technical) of the electronic docket management system and select related systems serving the Agency’s Directorate of Science, Technology and Medicine (DSTM).

 
Howard University -School of Social Work case Print

SITUATION: The Howard University, E. Franklin Frazer Center is the University’s School of Social Work. The Center’s challenge was to develop a strategic plan and budget for systems implementation that would assist the Center’s efforts in gaining additional funding and align it with the University’s goals and objectives.  WCS’s task was to develop a five-year strategic plan for the Center and create a budget to support the implementation of the plan.

WCS STRATEGY/SOLUTION:  WCS conducted a review of all systems, provided recommendations and developed a strategic plan. This plan outlined the Center’s short- and long- term goals and objectives and aligned the School of Social Work with Howard University’s goals and objectives. The goal of the strategic plan was to enable radical transformation of the Center’s strategy and the methods used to provide services to the underserved population, the Center’s primary focus.  WCS also developed a budget to support the system improvements and  implement the plan.

 
Jamaican Government Security Solution Print

SITUATION:  A Ministry of the Government of Jamaica needed to upgrade its IT security system to meet defined standards for safe, reliable and secure transmission, processing and storage of data from other government agencies and the general public. Highly confidential data is transmitted on this system. The Ministry contracted WCS to design and implement a viable centralized first line of defense data security solution.

WCS STRATEGY/SOLUTION:  To meet the specific security and compliance standards it was determined that the Ministry needed to upgrade its system by installing new firewalls, and implementing an appropriate policy that would improve the security posture of the Ministry. WCS designed and implemented a comprehensive Firewall solution for the Ministry. This solution also included:

  • Policies and Procedures
  • Virtual Private Networking (VPN)
  • Anti-virus and the ability to detect any network intrusions.
 
Local Government Medical Agency Print

SITUATION:  WCS provided services to this Local Government Agency responsible for administering Title XIX of the Social Security Act, the Medical Charities program, and other health care financing initiatives of a major metropolitan city. Additionally, this Agency:

  • Develops eligibility, service coverage, and payment policies for the city's health care financing programs.
  • Ensures that area health care programs take full advantage of federal funding for services for the indigent and uninsured.
  • Manages the use of health care services and the cost of care in area health care financing programs.
  • Analyzes existing health care financing policies to ensure that they are promoting efficient, effective, and economical care.
